Frequently Asked Questions:
What to wear and bring
Clothing: Wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely. Close-fitting, stretchy clothing is ideal so the teacher can check your form. Please ensure your clothing is free from zips and buckles to prevent damage to the equipment.
Footwear: You will do exercises in bare feet or socks. Non-slip socks are a good option, you may be asked to remove them upon occasion.
Equipment: Bring your own mat, the studio provides all other necessary equipment, we do have some spare mats you can borrow.
Hydration: Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.
Health and fitness considerations
All fitness levels: Pilates is suitable for all ages and abilities, including beginners. Reformer clients must complete an induction session before booking into a class.
Injuries and medical conditions: It's wise to get your doctor's approval first. You can then discuss your condition with the teacher, who can help you find the right class or modifications. You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire before commencing a class.
Pregnancy: Pilates is safe and beneficial during pregnancy, but you may want to wait until after the first trimester. After childbirth, it can help with post-natal recovery. We offer Post Natal classes but are qualified to support you through your pregnancy, providing there are no complications.
Weight loss: Pilates is excellent for toning and strengthening your body, but it's not a high-cardio, fat-burning exercise on its own. Combining it with other activities like brisk walking or swimming can be beneficial for weight loss goals.
Resistance training: Pilates is not a substitute for true strength training but is a fantastic introduction to adding resistance to your workouts. It is also hugely beneficial as a supplementary exercise to prevent injury in the gym, running or during other training.
Class logistics
Class length: Classes typically last between 50-60 minutes, depending on the specific class.
Frequency: While 2–3 times per week is ideal for seeing results faster, even one class a week is fine for maintenance.
Booking and cancellation: Classes require 12 hours' notice to avoid losing a credit or being charged a fee. Private sessions require 24 hours notice.
